The voices have gone

Image
There is only the deafening silence remaining . While I was writing my ebooks for Amazon  and Draft2Digital   I had hundreds of voices wishing to be heard. At times they were deafening, now I have stopped there is peace and silence, but I still have restless nights thinking about new short stories to write.

How you read my stories is up to you

Image
None of my stories are motivated by my views. From the start, let me point out that at the moment, none of my stories are motivated by my views on politics , religion , or any other matters of personal opinion. The exception is my award-winning ebook   which is written with my disdain for celebrities in mind. As the writer, I  can only tell you how I intended the story to be read if you read anything in my work that I did not plan that is not my fault.

Mark Johnson has made a comeback

Image
The Chronicles of Mark Johnson. A reader in the USA has this to say about my award-winning e-book  https://www.amazon.com/dp/B008BEDMSO  -  Just read the first story and dang its friggin brilliant. I totally love how the story is written (especially the spirit photography). Though it’s not scary at all but its clearly lot better than twilight and other retarded stories. No wonder why its award-winning book. Great job writing good stuff.

Was this me?

Bristol's award-winning writer With falling  e-book  sales, it is hard for me to remember that I once wrote an award-winning story    www.amazon.com/dp/B008BEDMSO .   That was five years ago, in what seems to me to be another life.

The end of the old regime

Mark Johnson's last call To some people my decision will appear rash, but not to me. This  #ebook  series started five years ago, and to date the three books have not sold half a dozen copies between them.

A good start to the festive season

Book 3 starts the ball rolling Ater a gap of four years, Mark Johnson has returned to the sales market with the sale of my new e-book     https://www.books2read.com/u/3Lrxn7

Inner conflict

Image
The story so far I must stop checking to see how much I have written LOL After scaring myself over the length of the original story of  Chronicles of Mark Johnson   you would think I'd learn my lesson, but I didn't. Last night, I uploaded the third book in the series, for edits and additions.  At the last count, this edition runs to 46 pages, and I haven't got truly into the story; this is all about what happens after the end of book 2, not about the conflict with the witch in her dimension.

Success comes rarely

Mark's highlight Mark Johnson, what became of the award-winning e-book ? In a nutshell - nothing - that is correct, four years ago the book won an award and then nothing. This month on  Amazon , he had his first sale since the award.

Acceptance is the key

The three steps of realization  It's hard for me to recall that at one time, writing was my drug; I couldn't go more than a day without writing a story without feeling on edge - now I can go weeks and not care. What caused this change of heart?  The first thing that ignited the flames of doubt and realization was I almost had a nervous breakdown four years ago. In the days before I won the award (shown above), I was writing over 10,000 words every week with ease, and I feared I'd burn out. A close friend ordered me to take a break, as she feared I would have a mental collapse if I didn't stop writing.  I had my break and returned better equipped to write.  Two years ago, I made the conscious choice to slow down, not for fear of a repeat episode but because I realised there was no point in pushing myself for a few nickels and dimes. Step 1 - I realised that despite what I thought - or was told - there is little hope of getting anywhere, even if ...

Ironically beautiful

Not for sale Pat Canella This week, I took both the Pat Canella - The Dockland Murders series and Chronicles of Mark Johnson series off the shelves.  Though the books haven't sold in over three years, along with my Amazon  #BestSeller   Holding Richmond  they hold a record that beat the massive sales of Forgestriker .  These books sold more in one day than Forgestriker did. So, though Patti & Mark go off the shelves, they can hold their heads high in one respect.

For sale

Image
I'll sell the rights to my work WHY? At the end of the month, I am considering selling the rights to my award-winning e-book.  If there are any interested parties, you can contact me via this blog, or my email alanwplace@hotmail.co.uk .  The reason for taking this action is to try and get some cash from the story that took over a year to write. Also, for sale are the rights to the sequel Wharfemere Finale, and I am writing the third installment to the series as you read this. Google    In retrospect, one of the big mistakes of last year was putting work on GooglePlay, that site is riddled with pirates. I put work on there because a man I was talking to said he'd buy my books if they were on there - more lies.

Back to work

I can't recall the last time I stopped thinking of a story  Non-stop  Despite the popular theory that I am a best seller, I rarely stop writing or thinking of a story line.  My best friend will tell you, three years ago this drive almost caused me to have a mental breakdown.  I was pushing myself too long and too hard, and for what? This was the time I was in the darkness and wrote the sequel to my award winner  Chronicles of Mark Johnson .  Wharfemere Finale is described as a realistic account of a man going through a mental breakdown, the reason is because I was going through the stages. At the time of writing the sequel, my friend thought I was going to kill her hero - Mark Johnson - in retrospect perhaps I should have done that as neither book has sold.  When I started the book, I was going to take out my anger at an incident in my life through my story. What happened was that despite my burning desire to write a vengeful...

Fringe writer

Image
Where will science stop?  One of my favourite tv series is Fringe . By definition the series is about the sciences we don't readily accept, yet exist to be controlled by our governments.  #fringewriter If you enjoy this series, you should read my award-winning e-book Chronicles of Mark Johnson   https://www.draft2digital.com/book/32117 .

It's amazing

Image
I never know how much I was writing. When I was writing my award-winner (shown here), I never considered how much I had written for my friends; until I decided to put the stories in a collection.  Both this book and its sequel Wharfemere Finale contain several stories of over 2,000 words per story. It's amazing how much I used to write when I was In the Zone . The Word   Another example is my online serial The Word, for 14 weeks I wrote over 1,000 a week.  Mordhiemicus   I had the same situation with my fantasy stories about Mordhiemicus . This story started out as three stories with no connections, I decided to join the stories and found I had written over 20,000 words for the selection with the same amount required to join the segments into a cohesive whole.

Kolchak and Johnson

Image
An unknown story My friends will tell you that my mind never rests, I'm always trying to think of new stories. This is a case in mind. I have two excluside Kolchak DVDs in my collection, what makes them wexclusive is that the two films were produced before the series came out, a third story was planned but the series was bought up by ABC and the writer of the story was not taken on to write scripts. Carl Kolchak  #Kolchak   is one my favourite TV series of the 70s'. The story of the down-at-heel news reporter who chased demons, only to lose his story because he had to destroy the evidence to survive.  The character of Kolchak inspired the writing of my award-winning e-book Chronicles of Mark Johnson   https://www.draft2digital.com/book/32117 . The clothing of the character, shabby and worn is how I depicted Phil Moore, Marks' friend. The concept of Kolchak as a demon hunter inspired the lead character in my series. Chronicles of Mark Johnson ...

Perceptions My change in style Ghost stories    In the days when I wrote my early ghost stories, my work was likened by friends to the stories of Edgar Allan Poe , M.R. James , and Sheridan Lefanu . I consider this a great honor, as I admire their work very much.  Pat Canella    My first e-book that went on sale is said to be in the hard-boiled style of Mickey Spillane by a former police officer from Queensland .  Chronicles of Mark Johnson    My award-winning e-book is compared to the works of H.P. Lovecraft . I have to admit before I had stories likened to his; I had not heard of him, but I can see the likeness in my stories.  Gonzo journalism    My later works have are said to be in the style of stories written by Hunter S. Thompson . Gonzo journalism is a style of first-person writing, where the writer of the article puts himself/herself in the story while reporting the story. My id...

George Orwell Wilfred Greatorex George Orwell    While the world waited to find out if Orwell's perception of the future would come to pass in 1984 . A more insidious future unfolded before our eyes.   Wilfred Greatorex The writer Wilfred Greatorex foresaw a future when the papers are controlled by corporations, and free thought is a criminal offense  https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1990_(TV_series) .  Israel If you don't believe this is happening, read the headlines in the press. Israel gets blamed for defending her borders while Palestine can launch as many attacks as it likes without penalty. US Congress If you are to believe the press,  Hilary Clinton leads the polls in the United States Democratic elections ; mainly because her figures are provided by her financial backers. Independent reports will tell you she trails Bernie Sanders by over 40% in most areas.  Bristol city council In my life, this year has bee...

October in the past October 2011    Four years ago, I launched the opening e-book in what I hoped would be a short series of crime stories .  The Dockland Murders   https://store.kobobooks.com/en-us/ebook/pat-canella-the-dockland-murders   was the first of my e-books to go on general sale. This book and its sequel Ghosts of your past  https://store.kobobooks.com/en-us/ebook/ghosts-of-your-past   are highly praised for their authentic feel by an ex-policeman from Queensland. GOYP is my bestseller on Kobo . October 2012   Yes, that year again. In the October of 2012, my e-book Chronicles of Mark Johnson  https://store.kobobooks.com/en-us/ebook/chronicles-of-mark-johnson   received an award for excellence from  http://indiependents.org/ . Both Chronicles and the sequel Wharfemere Finale  https://store.kobobooks.com/en-us/ebook/wharfemere-finale   received high praises from an independent New York review...

P A Canella Inner Demons  Most of the people who have read about my award-winning e-book Chronicles of Mark Johnson  - are aware I share many of Mark's traits - I based the character on my persona.  There is another character in the series that I can associate with; that is his mentor P.A. Canella. I don't consider myself as the persona in the series. The original P.A. Canella was written long before the series came into my mind.  The original Mr. Canella was written about in a short series of long-forgotten stories about a writer who wished to be well-read, and yet remain anonymous - that is the P.A. Canella I associate with myself. Fame and Fortune   While I am neither famous nor wealthy from my writing - I have created for myself a good reputation in the world of science-fiction  - with the mass sales of my popular series ( Forgestriker ).  People will tell you that fame and fortune can change people. At first I told myself ...

Re-writing a classic

Image
Chronicles of Mark Johnson Award winning book  Last week I started to edit my award winning e-book Chronicles of Mark Johnson .  Grammarly   While checking the stories with Grammarly, I found numerous errors. This is the problem when you decide to go back after improving your style - and my styling has improved radically - with the help of my good friend Julia Petrakis .  Sales record    You may question the validity of re-writing an award-winning book after three years. The editing is validated by the fact the book has had no sales since the award in October 2012.  This triple book edition will be a better-composed edition of the first two series of stories, plus a series that is in the work-in-progress stage. Nothing to lose   All I have to lose is my time, and being disabled and not being a TV addict - I have a lot of time to use. Will the effort be worth it?   Only the readers can decide. As fo...
