Sharmila Tagore

A firm favourite? Anyone watching the films I buy from eBay could be mislead to believe my current favourite actress is Sharmila Tagore . I am not disputing I find her very attractive, but she is also an excellent actress; as you will know - if you read this blog - I am more interested in the film story than buying because an attractive lady is in the film, There are some actresses I find attractive, but thier acting does nothing for me - Maduri Dixit , Huma Qureshi , Lara Dutta , and Esha Doel to name a few. Sharmila proves to me, beauty is not the domain of the young.

Beauty knows no Boundary

Not all the stars are Indian Though Bollywood covers the majority of India -  a line from  Goa via Hyderabad to Kolcata ( Calcutta ) is considered the area of Bollywood - not all the actors and actresses are from India. Some come from Pakistan , some from the border with Afghanistan , hence the name Khan being popular as it means king. Even some from Europe . When I see an attractive lady, such as Shelfali Shah above, I don't care about race/ religion/ politics, all I see is a pretty lady. I admit to watching some films because of a pretty actress, but if she doesn't grab me as an actress, that is the end; cases in mind are  Huma Quershi and Madhuri Dixit ' I consider both ladies attractive, but thier acting leavies me cold. There are cases when I go off a lady, but as an actress I will watch her films, Raveena Tandon is a good example. The area mentioned covers about 85% of the state, the only major cities not in the zone are Kerala - in the South West - and C...

The Age of Sridevi

Image
Forgotten beauties of Indian Cinema Pratima Kannan   Reena Roy   I know little about the history of movies in India, so this is no more than my thoughts on how I view the movie scene in the state from what I have gleaned in the last few months.  I know this will be a controversial article, as many view Sridevi, to this day, as the Queen of Bollywood though many actresses were, in my opinion, as good, yet lacked her connections. I apologize to ladies that I may miss out on the article; as I said, I don't possess any depth of knowledge of the times or the cinema of the time. The cinema industry in India from the mid-1980s until 2018 was dominated by two factors, the Kapoor family and one of the wives in the family, Sridevi . The family rule was, and as far as I know, still is, if an actress marries into the family, she has to forgo her career and become a member of India's most celebrated family with a history dating to the beginnings of the cinema in India. That rule did ...

Where Now?

More Romance? Aruna Irani At the moment, my focus for a story is India . I have for a long time had an interest in the state, it has nothing to do with either the series The Jewel in the Crown , or the movie The Far Pavillions . My interest goes beyond the days of the Raj, and the British Empire ; I am a Royalist , but not an Imperialist . I believe the best people to run a country, are the people living there, not some far-off- politician . On a more fundemantal basis, few Empires last, mainly because the are so costly.  I have several ideas for stories, I will need to consider how I can write them to fit this blog . I realise the readershp on here is low, but at least it will get read over time, if I put these for sale, there is little chance any will be bought as I don't write the type of story that sells these days.
