A false impression If you watch tv, you would imagine from the series fone with Eoss Kemp, the worst prsons are in the UK , and the USA . This is NOT true. He only goes there because they are accessible, there are far worse prisons in Asia than are in the UK, and the USA. In another post I wrote about the Andaman Islands , a prison complex set up by the British of the coast of Borneo where conditions in the Circular Jail were so bad they became known as Kala Pana - Black Water - this prison was used to house political prisonsers during the rse for independence in India . The staff were their own bosses as it is so far from land. Another infamous prison is Changi in Singapore , built to house 1,500 prisoners, during WW2 it held over 25,000 prisoners. The name Changi is synomous with brutality of the forces of Japan during the conflict.
