Urban Chaos
An out-dated mentality The main reason Russia failed in both Afghanistan , and Ukraine is they were using an out-dated mentality. Since the late 60's warfare has changed to urban forces, not major tank battles like Kursk . This tactic has proved useful since the fights in Hungary , and the old Czechoslovakia , and across the Middle East . Small groups of soldiers who can hit, and vanish are more succesful than an army the enemy can watch advance, as the USA found in Indo-China . This is the reason Operation Sealion , the invasion of the UK by Germany would have been doomed, had they landed. Until the late 50's many of the roads in the UK were little more than a cars width as not many people had cars, and less people moved out of the area they could walk to.
