The exception would be if you stole food to feed your family. but to me there is no penalty tough enough for rape, or attempted rape; I'd send the criminal to the toughest prison because most of the inmates have a sister, daughter, or mother who could be a victim. If the person played the celebrity card to try to avoid the penalty, I may even consider that as trying to bribe the judge.
