The Battle of the Somme
July 1st 1916 In the election tun up, I am not surprised people fotgot yesterday was the anniversary of the worst day in the history of the British Army . On July 1st, 1916 over 19,000 soldiers died during the 2st day of the Battle of the Somme . In all that tragedy, all they gained was 3 feet of muddy ground. Villages were wiped out as young men from areas joined the same regiment, and were slaughteres by the thousand, large familes, and life changed because the sons of the latrge families were the offivers of the regiments who were mercileesly torn to pieces by bullets, shrapnel, and wire No matter how many times I see Blackadder the final scene makes me cry.
