Officially the First Short Story

Image
I did have an earlier short story published Officially, this short story is my first to be published , unofficially it is my second as I had a story published in a magazine when I was about 17. That story is lost to time as it was in a men's magazine of the 1970's, by today's writing it would be lame.

An unseen ghost story

Image
A treat for Christmas Treat yourself to my best-known  ghost story  www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00H4F38AI   for  Christmas .   This collection features a version of my story not seen apart from on a friend's webpage for a few weeks, it is both a  bargain  and something of a  collectable e-book .

Who was at the organ?

Image
Bishopsworth In times of hardship and distress, similar to those he was going through, the writer had always found some peace in the clamour of life by visiting churches. This day was no different, his life was filled with the torment of debts he couldn't pay and worries about his health     https://disqus.com/home/discussion/channel-writingworld/carry_the_fight_on/   . The history of churches had been an interest of his since his teens, at one time he did think he should have become a priest as he can empathise with people because he's been through a lot. His friends and family had grown more worried since the move. Everyone thought he was coping well with the changes in his life, what they didn't realise is that this only showed what a good actor he had become over the years; in reality, he was not coping well. As he walked up the path to the church, he saw the doors were closed, and there was no sound. He quietly walked around the side of the church examinin...

A double for Halloween

Image
The chills are multiplying Treat yourself to a spooktacular double for Halloween , with two of my best stories for this time of year. The classic chilling tale of The Old Church ghosts   and Carol Caitlin's debut in  Zombiewatch . Ms. Caitlin reappears in  The Overdale incident , this time learning about alien love-making techniques .

The Rocking Lantern

Image
Between the rise in popularity of my first story "The Ghost of St. Mary's" and my most read story "The Old Church Ghosts," lies a little read story of a lost cargo and a foolish captain who haunts the sea around Scarborough. The story is fiction but the storm at the end is recorded in the RNLI annals.  As with all my books it is available @  https://www.draft2digital.com/book/

The FREE read fallacy busted

Image
There is a fallacy among writers than free reads encourage sales of your books. I can tell you it is a LIE, free reads do NOT boost your sales, here are examples to view:- On my blog  http://alsdomain.weebly.com/index.html#.UXcS36KG0W7 over 1,750 reads and not one sale. http://www.amazon.com/dp/B008BK1WDK On Scib'd chapter one of Chronicles of Mark Johnson has over 350 reads but not a sale. http://www.amazon.com/dp/B008BEDMSO  Old Church Ghosts is my most popular story with 3 versions but although its popularity is not in doubt, there have been no sales. http://www.amazon.com/dp/B0085ZXWEI Many writers will argue the opposite view, I am giving you the view from my point of view – statistics tell their own story, or maybe I am just a bad writer?

Ghosts delight

http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00ALHSC6G   This is a good selection of my ghost stories, covering early ones such as "The Ghost of St. Mary's" and following through to the short version of "Love of the Sea," which later in the year will be out as a single larger book,

That which haunts me, has returned.

Now in its 4th version, it is back to haunt me. I said at the time of finishing it "It would be just my luck, as I don't like it, It will be a best seller." OCG isn't a best seller, but certainly the most read.

The reformation of the Writer of Ghosts

Image
Today, I am starting a spooky version of my most popular story. It has a well documented history on the blog, but this is an adult version. With luck and a good rate of work, it should be out by the end of next week and on sale from my blog.  This is the re-start to my work after a long period of doubts, I will still be going off line at the end of the month as things are not good at the moment for me, and I need some down-time. I will continue to write as I have stories aplenty to tell.

A tale of two stories updated

Image
Back in July 2012 I wrote a blog about the contrasting fortunes of two of my stories and how they fared in the reader's eyes. I thought in view of recent events, it would be interesting to see how the months had treated them http://writersgettogether.blogspot.co.uk/2012/07/old-church-ghosts.html http://hereiamattheedge.blogspot.co.uk/2012/07/tale-of-two-stories.html#.UHiQe29JNGA  It is still the case that "The Old church ghost" is one of my most popular stories. It is appearing in "A spooky fall harvest" written by our group, The Peacock writers as well as going through a fourth version with a more adult feel. Chronicles, has recently been in the horror anthology charts and now has an award by indiePENdents.org. This collection will always be my personal favourite. Even though I loved MJ & didn't like TOCG, they do share one thing, they are struggling for sales. Chronicles has sold 3 copies in as many months. Chronicles is now with the ...
