Here I am at the edge

Take your pick  The main reason I view myself as a journalist rather than a writer is I usually write short stories , not novel length books . I have said often that I admire Jane Austen , but I write more like Mickey Spillane ; if something is in my story it has a purpose other than padding the pages. I have written several longer stories, and if I thought they would get read I am sure I could repeat the process, and write a fuller length story.

 A virtual time-traveler I will watch La Peste about Seville  as I intend to buy the series in the new year. Most of the travel I do these days is around India, and going to films from the 1950's to the 1990's. The reason for this is at the time I watch, movies had music as part of the story; nowadays, most of the films appear to be trying to fit a story around as much singing and dancing as you can put in 2 hours.

  There will always be writers . I dare say most of us, at some time have said, "The book was better than the film." In this case, The Rum Diary by Hunter S. Thompson , there is no doubt in my mind of the above statement, the film never gave the tensions felt by the writers in Puerto Rico that the book conveyed so acutely.  In his own words, he saw himself as a vagrant journalist going from one job to another in the hope of writing the item that would earn him a job with a steady wage in New York .

 Gonzo journalism. Today fells like the last days of the Sun newspaper of  San Juan ,  Puerto Rico  as described in the book   The Rum Diary  b y  Hunter S. Thompson . The heat is a dry humid heat were the the wind blows no leaves move as they are too tired. Some people who have read my work tell me I write like Hunter, it is called  gonzo publishing , a style of writing where the writer puts himself in the story as a character; this is another compliment in my world. I have been compared to other writers as my writing covers several genres. The two best compliments paid to me are I write like an American, because most of my sales are in the  USA , and I think like a Jew. I have read the book and seen the film, in my opinion, the book is far superior to the book as it conveys the tensions of the writers at the time better; like most of the writers at the time Hunter was waiting for the story which would shoot him to a contract with a big publ...

A writer's dream. Watching the film A Private War about the life of Marie Colvin who was killed in Syria in 2011; I got to thinking about how I saw myself as a writer until last year when I stopped writing. Though I am an award-winning writer ; I won the award above in 2012, I ask myself which I would prefer the Nobel Prize for Literature or the Pulitzer Prize for Journalism ? I saw myself more as a journalist than a writer until last year when my disabilities forced me to be virtually housebound, the disabilities have now done their worst. I always saw myself in a similar vein to Kolchak , always chasing the big story that kept eluding me like a character I started to write a short story about called Archie Grimley, the down at heel journalist forever running from his past.

Foreign films Whenever I can, I prefer to buy the DVDs of films and series on TV I enjoy, but it is not always possible as I watch a lot of international programs , and getting subtitled movies is hard. So, I am forced to download some of my films through various torrent sites; the worst TV to download is German as they do not do English subtitles. The lady on the cover of my new ebook (shown above) is a Belgian lady I have seen in several series from Belgium .

Science Fiction writer I wonder if I would ever have thought of myself in the same way others did? Is there a way back from the edge? After being a semi-successful writer of  #scifi   hereiamattheedge.blogspot.co.uk/2016/10/without-forgestriker.html#.WYHY24grLIU , I have dropped to being a  blogger  like many thousands of teens who blog about pop music – how the mighty have fallen.

I had a good time I had a feeling the day was close, and it IS here.  My right ankle is so painful I cannot put my weight on it, so my last ramble was to   Dundry . I fought this day off for seventeen years, knowing any day could be my last; finally, the Lord decided it is my time. I am glad I had the time I did have and the opportunity to see what I did, but some things are inevitable, and my  RAF  injury caught up with me.

WHY? Why did I return to #writing ? My writing was never about the money to me, after all beyond my #scifi  series Forgestriker  nothing has sold. To me, a sale is a sign of appreciation for the time invested, I only make $0.60 cents per #ebook .  The main reason I returned is that I needed a release for the build up of stress in my life over the last two months, it isn't only the fire that created the tension there are other issues involved.

Hunter S. Thompson The term The Vagrant Journalist was coined by writer Hunter S. Thonpson during his time in Puerto Rico  as he, liked others, waited for his big break; it was a turmultous time in the area with riots and coups in most countries, and the rise of Papa Doc in Haiti . My virtual travels these days include India  as the main port of call thanks to many films and shows from there being on Netflix .
