Nobel or Pulitzer?

Image
A writer's dream. Watching the film A Private War about the life of Marie Colvin who was killed in Syria in 2011; I got to thinking about how I saw myself as a writer until last year when I stopped writing. Though I am an award-winning writer ; I won the award above in 2012, I ask myself which I would prefer the Nobel Prize for Literature or the Pulitzer Prize for Journalism ? I saw myself more as a journalist than a writer until last year when my disabilities forced me to be virtually housebound, the disabilities have now done their worst. I always saw myself in a similar vein to Kolchak , always chasing the big story that kept eluding me like a character I started to write a short story about called Archie Grimley, the down at heel journalist forever running from his past.

Staring into the abyss

Is there a way back from the edge? I often think I am like the character Carl Kolchak,   https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kolchak:_The_Night_Stalker , as the majority of my writing is never seen. In the words of  Hunter S. Thompson , I am a vagrant journalist  https://hereiamattheedge.blogspot.co.uk/2015/12/i-am-vagrant-journalist.html#.WYHUG4grLIU . After being a semi-successful writer of  #scifi   hereiamattheedge.blogspot.co.uk/2016/10/without-forgestriker.html#.WYHY24grLIU , I have dropped to being a  blogger  like many thousands of teens who blog about pop music – how the mighty have fallen.

Kolchak and Johnson

An unknown story My friends will tell you that my mind never rests, I'm always trying to think of new stories. This is a case in mind. I have two excluside Kolchak DVDs in my collection, what makes them wexclusive is that the two films were produced before the series came out, a third story was planned but the series was bought up by ABC and the writer of the story was not taken on to write scripts. Carl Kolchak  #Kolchak   is one my favourite TV series of the 70s'. The story of the down-at-heel news reporter who chased demons, only to lose his story because he had to destroy the evidence to survive.  The character of Kolchak inspired the writing of my award-winning e-book Chronicles of Mark Johnson   https://www.draft2digital.com/book/32117 . The clothing of the character, shabby and worn is how I depicted Phil Moore, Marks' friend. The concept of Kolchak as a demon hunter inspired the lead character in my series. Chronicles of Mark Johnson ...

Phil and Mark

Older readers will recognise the face which thrilled us in the 70s. The face is Darren McGavin and the series was Kochak: The Night Stalker.  It was the portrayal of the lonely and misunderstood news hound who tracked demons in Chicago's alleys which inspired me to the series as did the creation of my alter ego Mark.  Like Carl Kolchak, Phil Moore works in a dark and dust atmosphere which comes into play later in book 3, when strange things begin to happen.  Although not as visual as any of the others, Phil's role as Mark's best friend and contact with the outside world is vital to the series. Mark and he go back to their college days -- even if they did separate for a while -- when Mark went on a sojourn to Australia and Phil was contacted by P A Canella about some strange items.  In books 2 & 3 we come across all types of wonderful weapons and it is Phil's task to keep Mark in one piece. While his mind goes deeper into the darker regions...

Kochak and Johnson

The night was cold and frosty, and the freezing Chicago rain had kept most people inside but for some, even the freezing rain was no hindrance. One such person was Carl Kolchak -- reporter for INS -- he had just got back to the offices, when the phone in the editor's office rang. His boss, Tony Vincenso, picked it up and sat talking. Tony put the phone reciever down and hung his head in his hands as he ran his fingers through his hair, then giving in to reality he called out, "Carl, there's somebody on the phone for you."  Astute as ever Kochak replied, "Who? Tony." Vincenso lifted his bulky figure off the chair and using his coffee stained desk as a prop he answered, "How the heck should I know? All the guy said was he runs a paranormal research facility and wanted to talk to you. Are you going to answer the call?" Kolchak came out from behind the desk he used and walked into the office, picking the receiver up he said, "Carl Kolcha...
