Television from Mexico

Image
Telemundo Telenovellas If I was amazed to find myself watching, and enjoying televion from Mexico , my wife wasn't, she sees it as natural as I watch a lot of TV from Spain . The best way to describe T ierra de Lobos (AKA LAnd of the Wolves) is a cross between The Outlaw Josey Wales and The Long Riders . Tierra de Reyes (AKA Land of Honour) is a cross between Dallas and Dynasty I would imagine; I never saw those two series, but with a dash of Mexican revenge added in.

In the years before Forgestriker

Image
Forgestriker was not the opening To most people my first science fiction project is the best selling Forgestriker series, but this is not so as years before that I began an online serial called The Word which is inspired by Ray Bradbury 's short story Fahrenheit 451 .  After several weeks and 15 chapters, (about 90 pages), I stopped writing this serial that is why it is forgotten. Why did I stop writing in mid-story? The answer is easy to understand - I was writing as many pages at the time as the story was attracting readers, so I saw no point continuing a story nobody was interested in reading.  At the time of ending, I had developed several possible off-shoot story lines if the serial brought in sales, but as the readers are not interested they too were shelved.

Unofficial copies

Sometimes you can't get what you want officially I spend a few hours each day downloading old films, and unknown series from YouTube . I am transferring computer files of old Bollywood films to DVD, for two reasons. The first is it is easier for me to watch a film on my TV, than sat at my computer . The second is I need the file space to enable me to download more films/ If I could buy the series I watch on Netflix , I would buy them, but as many are from either India . Many, if any, are not for sale; and if they do come for sale it won't be for several years as most of what I watch is not popular tv. This morning, March 18th, 2023, I came across a downloading site in the USA where I can buy some of the films on my YouTube channel  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xtsq7dcAWd8&list=PLN_cA-MjGHZRpdomsPoPVH249PGiMr0lk .

The life of an Indie Writer

Image
A decade of struggles to prove I was right When I began the journey, I told my friends the journey would be hard and in the end pointless for the lack of funds to get my work to where it can be seen. Now, over a decade later, I am no longer writing short stories  for even these free posts on my blog get few readers, and all the "friends" I had have gone. I used to read articles about "Indies who made it" but the question nobody asked was do you think the outlay is worth the income? There is no need to go into details, just a quick evaluation of what was paid over the years against what has been obtained. I can tell you, from the standpoint of this former Indie Author , my answer is NO! In no way does the amount I paid out come anywhere close to the amount I earned. I kept being told I am an excellent writer with a vivid imagination, and it can take ten years to get recognized, well the time came and went and here I am, still back to the beginning with no hope of ...

London is not calling

Image
London may be the capital, but few people live there. For decades the population has been decreasing in London , mainly because people cannot afford the price of living in the capital. With people commuting to London, and now being told to stay away to stop the spread of the covid virus, it is not surprising that London Is Not Calling.

I have more blog readers in Germany than the UK

Image
I am not surprised as nobody in the UK reads my blog For many years, Russia was my second largest audience, but in recent months the mantle has been passed to Germany with one exception when India had the honor. The best the UK can do is fourth as I am the main reader here.

Managerial Decisions are to blame not Brexit

Image
High Street shop closures When people read about shops closing, it is all to easy to blame Brexit , but people should look closer to home. How can a store run when the Board of Directors award themselves massive pay rises, and golden handshake in a time when many of the people their success depended on are struggling to put food on the table? Several years ago, when our youngest daughter worked for Superdry , the staff were paid half wages for December and January. The were told if they paid into a share fund they would get rewarded for their loyalty, then the CEO sold half of his shares and the share price halved overnight. My daughter asked if it was worth keeping the shares, I told her she could wait 10 to 20 years and the shares would still not be worth the paper they are printed on after his actions.

Confused.com

Naagin Having confided in Wikipedia about the career of Shraddha Kapoor , I am now totally confused. Late last year, I posted a post about the possibility of Ms. Kapoor appearing in the role of Nagin, a shape-shifting snake goddess from India . I said at the time, I would not like to be her, as she was taking on a role synonymous with her aunty, Sridevi . I am not sure if the film is going to be made, or if they changed it into the serial  Naagin . If they did change the film into a serial; it is a terrible error of judgment and would do the young lady no good. I am no judge of the audience, but I see no way you can turn a v g film, into a serial lasting six seasons. The change in format does not alter how I feel, this is the worst adaption I have seen so far; I had to turn it off after only 15 mins as it has now become a teen romance. To add to the confusion, I found that eBay has mistitled a film by Satyajit Ray    https://hereiamattheedge.blogspot.com/2023/10/sa...

Don't keep blaming Brexit

Image
EU Fishing Policy One advantage of being a social historian of mature age is I can recall incidents that people keep forgetting. The ruination of the UK fishing industry has little to do with Brexit . This has been the plan of the EEC/EU for almist 50 years https://hereiamattheedge.blogspot.com/2020/11/protect-our-fishermen.html#.YBrr1miTLq8 ; started when the EEC - later EU - ;aid down quotas for what fish could be caiught and when. This led to the "black fish" market because if men caught more than the quota they had two choices, risk selling it on the black market and going out of business, or throwing the catch  back, again leading to a loss of earnings as was shown in an episode of the Wycliffe   series set in Devon and  Cornwall . You may ask why is this so, the reason is other than Spain none of the countries has a large fishing fleet.
