Don't keep blaming Brexit

 EU Fishing Policy


One advantage of being a social historian of mature age is I can recall incidents that people keep forgetting.

The ruination of the UK fishing industry has little to do with Brexit. This has been the plan of the EEC/EU for almist 50 years https://hereiamattheedge.blogspot.com/2020/11/protect-our-fishermen.html#.YBrr1miTLq8; started when the EEC - later EU - ;aid down quotas for what fish could be caiught and when.
This led to the "black fish" market because if men caught more than the quota they had two choices, risk selling it on the black market and going out of business, or throwing the catch  back, again leading to a loss of earnings as was shown in an episode of the Wycliffe series set in Devon and Cornwall.

You may ask why is this so, the reason is other than Spain none of the countries has a large fishing fleet.
