The book is better than the film.

 There will always be writers.

I dare say most of us, at some time have said, "The book was better than the film."
In this case, The Rum Diary by Hunter S. Thompson, there is no doubt in my mind of the above statement, the film never gave the tensions felt by the writers in Puerto Rico that the book conveyed so acutely. 
In his own words, he saw himself as a vagrant journalist going from one job to another in the hope of writing the item that would earn him a job with a steady wage in New York.
