The Last FIsh

Image
Thank the Lord It had been a bad season for the fishing fleet. With many days lost to high winds and high seas income was lower than expected, but the bills kept mounting. Bill Darnell sat in the "snug" of the inn, Three Captain's looking out and wondering if there would be a fleet next year; he turned to his friend John Collins and said, "The tide is running fast, and the weather looks good, do you want to take the boat out for one last trip this year, John?" John supped his pint of ale, then replied, "I can't see we've anything to lose, Bill, the pickings this year are so low this could be our last trip. Our families have fished the banks for generations, but never have the catches been as low as they were this year." The two men walked slowly down to the slip where they had left their small boat, with heavy hearts they gently pushed their light boat onto the waves; all seemed so calm at that moment, but things were about to change. The boat ...

The Third Option

Image
Keep it on the Blog Restricted Readership With both Amazon and Draft2Digital having a high-risk factor; the third option comes into play. Option 3 is to keep it on here - this woud mean a very small readership, most posts don't get more than ten readers. Also, being on here would require me to limit the size of my writing to short story length, about 10 - 15 pages, which was what I was planning. I can tell you, with certainty there are severa l writing projects I had in mind that would not see the light of day on here; they are well over 50 pages now, and the stories could have expanded.

What a Choice :( :(

Caught between a rock and a hard place Hobson's Choice Most people have either seen the play, or the film, and heard the expression " Hobson's Choice ," but few people know its origins. The story started during the late 17th Century in Norfolk , England . A farmer named Hobson rented his horses out to travelers, naturally people wanted the best horse, so the poor horse became too tired to work. Mr. Hobson decided to alternate his horses to keep the business going, but when people saw they were not getting the best they complained; so he said "It's Hobson's Choice, either you get what I offer, or you walk." I am caught between a rock and a hard place, or between the lesser of two evils if you wish. If I put an eBook on Amazon , the likelyhood is won't sell, and if I put it in my selection of eBooks on Draft2Digital it could be sent out FREE .

The new World of the Writer's Block

Image
My old Writer's  Block My mind is like a desert The usual idea of a writer with Writer's Block is a writer who cannot think of a story to write , that was not the case with me. My block used to be the other way; I had too many ideas, and I had trouble choosing what to write. In the last month, that has changed a lot; I still get the ideas for stories, but I now ignore them, why? The main reason is I found that Barnes & Noble have been sending my work FREE to lendin libraries which means until thae story reaches a certain aount of readers I won't see a dime. The rub here is there is no set figure, so the procedure can be infinite, and I'll not get a nickel. Another reason is this blog is failing, not that it ever succeeded, in my plan to attract buyers for my eBook selection; it is also failing to hold its readers, so that is why the posts are irregular. Like a desert, my mind appears lifeless, and like the desert there is life if you know how to find it.  Could ...

Those who served do not need a Remembrance Day

Image
If you served in the Armed Forces If you are ex- Armed Forces , like I am, you do not need a  Remembrance Day ; each day we live is a reminder. I neer lost a friend, but several of my friends were attacked, one while we served in Scotland . I bear an injury I recieved during my six-years in the Royal Air Force, which has worsened to the point I cannot stand for long.

I did consider having a tattoo one time.

The only Tattoo for me I did consider having a tatto for a while, then I discoeverd I have various medical conditions which would have made the procedure a health risk, Other than the Yorkshire rose, another tat I would have considered may have been a furry friend handshake with a human hand holding the paws of a dog , and a cat , in the shape of an F.

Pay a Writer

Image
Secure Deals There is another option, you can contact me via either of my email addresses (alanwplace@hotmail.co.uk / awplace1956@gmail.com). We could discuss the plan, and decide on the fee, I'll send my bank details, and you could send the fees to the account; cutting out the middle-man, and hopefully paying the writer his due.
