Did Mallory & Irvine conquer Everest?

Image
The Lost Generation . I will not deny Sir Edmund Hillary deserves the credit for being the first person to ascend and descend Mount Everest, that is beyond question; however, I do contest he was the first to ascend the mountain. Over twenty years before, the expedition led by George Mallory and Andrew Irvine conquered Everest, in my opinion. There is no empirical evidence to confirm what many people believe is true, as they died on the mountain. They were last seen alive by Noel Odell ascending the third step. Several expeditions since that time in 1924 expedition claim to have seen bodies where the men would have fallen.  Irvine’s body was found in a crevice in the mid-1970s with a golfball size hole in his forehead; one theory is he slipped and to slow his fall dug his pick into the rock face. When he slid the theory is his axe hit a rock and jumped out, hitting him in the head. At this stage, Irvine would have become a dead weight as he fell, and Mallory knowing the risks was forc

A Naturalist Speaks

Keep The Ban For most of my life, until a few years ago when walking became too painful, I had been a photographer and a naturalist. When I was working in Scotland, during my posting to RAF Lossiemouth ; I earned a reputation for going on walks for hours. Some of the best photos I took were of the fishing fleet, and the cormorants around the docks. For years, I was a member of the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds , until I found out that my money was not going to help the birds, it was going to build office blocks in Sandy , Berkshire . I did not want to stop paying as I am a lover of nature, but at the same time I saw my money was not going to what it was intended for, so I had no other options as the birds were not being helped. It is not known generally, but during those years I became a small landowner in Scotland as I bought a small patch of land to give migration birds a rest on their long journey from Canada / USA to Russia . Though I have taken many thousands of i

I am now a Blogger.

Writing for free Book sales were never my priority, being read is one of my priorities as a writer . The reason I am not putting another ebook for sale after the two projects I am working on at the moment is simply that no one reads what I write , if I ask for a small price, but put it on my blog for free and people will read the blog - even if only in Singapore .

If I hadn't met you.

Will science fiction become Science? I am watching a fascinating science fiction, or is it science series on Netflix from Spain at the moment; the series is called If I hadn’t met you .  The series is about a man who is trying to find a universe where his actions do not cause the death of his wife. The series is science fiction these days because the existence of the multiverse is shrouded in mystery. I am sure that one day this debate on science fiction will become scienc e, after all, in one lifetime the use of cell phones has come from S tar Trek to everyday use. The philosophical argument for the multiverse is that for each we do/ do not take a new universe exists. The counter argument is that if you do not take action, the universe you would have created does not get brought into existence.  Some things in science fiction I am sure will come about; for one transporting items by deconstructing them and beaming them across space, however, you need to limit what you transport as t

Mea Culpa

C'est la vie                                           I am guilty I accept some of the faults in the selling of my DVD selection on eBay are mine. I didn't follow the trend of sales, but I was selling some of the films I had, and I don't enjoy the style of most Bollywood m ovies today which are musicals , with a little acting.  A big mistake was believing traders had a sense of fair business, most on the site do, but I did come across some who were only there to scam the buyers. I could have gone on selling for a few months, but I decided to close my shop next month.

Is there a Multiverse?

Image
To believe is to challenge reality. On  Netflix  at the moment I am watching an engrossing  science fiction  series. The question is the multiverse theory expounded by some scientists and philosophers science or science fiction? In short, the theory is that for every action we take, or don't take a universe is created for that action, this would lead to endless universes of mainly dead ends. On the other side of the coin, some people say that for each action we do NOT take any universe that would have been created for that action doe snot exist. I have no views either way as I am not educated highly enough to argue for or against a side. Some philosophers say that when we get the feeling that somebody has walked over our grave that is a crossing of time lines. If you have read my posts, you will know I believe  in what is loosely called " Fringe Science ," that is science the world won't accept or believe in now.  Doppelgangers  are totally different thing; I do be

A hot day in San Juan

Image
Gonzo journalism. Today fells like the last days of the Sun newspaper of  San Juan ,  Puerto Rico  as described in the book   The Rum Diary  b y  Hunter S. Thompson . The heat is a dry humid heat were the the wind blows no leaves move as they are too tired. Some people who have read my work tell me I write like Hunter, it is called  gonzo publishing , a style of writing where the writer puts himself in the story as a character; this is another compliment in my world. I have been compared to other writers as my writing covers several genres. The two best compliments paid to me are I write like an American, because most of my sales are in the  USA , and I think like a Jew. I have read the book and seen the film, in my opinion, the book is far superior to the book as it conveys the tensions of the writers at the time better; like most of the writers at the time Hunter was waiting for the story which would shoot him to a contract with a big publisher. He got it, but was still considered a

12 years as a writer and all I have to show is scammers asking me to write.

Canary.co I thought it was too good to be true, and I was right. Last night I was offered the opportunity to write for a magazine, it turned out to be a SCAM . The site uses click bait, a tactic where you get paid per click.

If you want to be a Writer get a Degree

Image
The first lesson I learned. If you wish to be a writer  the first step is to get a degree (it doesn't matter what subject), then publishers will take you seriously. Without those letters, you could be the world's greatest writer but you'll have the same chance of success as an ice cube in an oven. You don't have to be a good writer to get a contract, I know as I tried to edit a book for someone; it had so many errors to correct them I'd have to have re-written his book from page 1. I kid you not, think of any basic writing error and it was in there, I know some writers use what they call "train of thought" which is where you type as you think, but this was a block of writing with no pauses. It is enough to say the book passed the editors at Xlibris ; they are the most inept group of scam artists I have come across. On the site Pissed Customer.com Xlibirs had over 50 pages of complaints the last time I looked which was many years ago. From half pages prin

Alaska and the Cold War

Image
A Sunken Treasure When you think of sunken treasure, the last place you may think of is Alaska, but a few years ago a group of hunters traced a galleon that had eluded its pursuers and holed up in a bay off the coast of Alaska . The ship had escaped because it was swift, and had a low draft, meaning it could run into shallows the larger dare not for fear of grounding. The hunters knew the location of the inlet the ship probably ran to, but at this point, they ran into several issues. One was getting permission to dig the ground, but more dangerous is that during the Cold War - the late 50s - 70s the area was on the frontline with troops from Russia not more than 10 kilometers away. The area where they located the gold turned out to on an old ammunition store, with ordnance that old there was no way the group could dig, even though they had proof the gold was there. There is so much ordnance it would have caused an explosion you could not get far enough from to explode. If that wasn&
