 The book fair scam

The classic scam run by a Vanity Publisher is the book fair scam.

This is how it works. They will send you a list of fairs they "claim" they will show your books at, the scam is they never go.

The firm know you can never go to these fairs to check if your books are there, and if one of the fairs is close to you, as one was seveal years go when I was on a site based in Germany. The writing site I was on hired a stall at a fair in Los Angeles, as one of the writers in the group lived on the outskirts of the city she visited the fair to see her books. What she found, after hours of searching, was that the publisjer had hired a stall no bigger than a removal van on the edge of the grounds, so,IF they did go, they could "claim" they were there, but you never found them as there were so many stalls.

The liklihood is they never go, Vanity Publishing runs on scamming a writer to earn its keep, so spending money to go to a fair is NOT an option.
