The Mafia is as strong as ever

 Long Island's links to crime

Make no mistake, the strength of the Mafia, and the power of the "families" involved in the crime are as strong as they have ever been.
You only need read about the recent Long Island Serial Killer, to know how true my words are.

Long Island, New York, the landing point for generations of migrants to the USA. Not surprisingly, it is also the heart of the financial district with many of the big families living in Manhattan,

In the headlines at this moment is the story of the Long Island serial killer. Rex Heuermann, who killed 18 young ladies in a spell from 1996 to 2011.

There are several key questions to be asked at this stage; one of the main ones is why did he need 95 guns, even with US gun laws, this is a case of overkill. The next question is twofold, with that many weapons, he must have come to the notice of the Mafia, how did they view him? WIth that many weapons he could be viewed as either a possible ally, or a probable enemy, Either way, he was on their radar, and being watched.

Recent events (1970s onwards) point to the island being a place of intrigue. In the summer of 1975, teamster union leader Jimmy Hoffa went to meet the Dockworker’s Union leaders with the idea of taking over the union to impose his control on the vital element of the transport unions. The seamen can bring the goods to the docks, and the truckers can distribute the goods across the land, but without the dockers nothing can move.

This attempted take over would have brought Mr. Hoffa in contact with the notorious Genovese family who run the seafront. This family are the largest of the five families who run the unions in and around New York, nothing happens without their say-so, especially in the docks. Sometimes, the smallest cog is the most important. The fingers of the Genovese family stretch down to Miani, and across as far as Philadelphia.

The last thing they would accept is an upstart from Detroit taking their “pitch.” The disappearance of Hoffa, and his missing body have lead to various theories over the years, the mostly likely scenario is the “family” either sent someone to Detroit, or had connections there, and had his body disposed of in the lakes nearby that are filled with fish that will devour flesh. This would explain why the body has not been found, if the skin is torn the gases from decomposition will not betrapped, so the body will not float.

Across the bay from Gilgo Beach is the house of one of the most brutal murders in the USA, these murders are equal to those of the Manson clan. Known as the Amityville House murders, the house where they took place is only a half-hour drive from Gilgo Beach; the drive would be a lot shorter, but there is no bridge close to either point; if there was a bridge, you would be taking a journey of less than 10 minutes from A to B.

The Amityville Murders were not cleared up because the husband didn’t want to speak ill of his wife’s father; the reason is he was a Capo - district chief - for the Genovese’s, and talking out of turn would have meant he’d put himself in their sights.

Between 1989 and 1993, a serial killer named Joel Rifkin roamed the area, he killed around 17 people before being arrested. He was sent to Attica prison, where he was considered a security risk, and was forced to send 23 hours a day on his own. He appealed, and lost his case, in 2000, before being sent to Clinton County jail.

Not far up the river from these venues is the city of New Haven, a city which has seen a 50% rise in shootings in the last three years. This increase is ongoing, as five people were killed on the streets in June 2023.

In most cities, the docks are by nature the roughest areas of the city; they need to be as you need to be able to handle yourself, or you won’t survive. If you add a large influx of money, and people seeking control, you have a tinderbox waiting to explode.

If you were a conspiracy theorist, you may think there could be something evil going on in the area, water poisoning, or worse? Or could it be as simple as people fighting for control of money and the power it brings.
