Olof Palme

Fallet. Fallet is a Swedish term meaning unsolved murder. This TV series is a comedy, which, in my view, failed in episode one for one reason. Halfway through the episode, the Swedish police are in pursuit of the killer of a man called Olof Palme , who gets shot by accident. Unless you have an interest in either political crime or unsolved murders the name, Olof Palme will mean nothing to the British viewers. Olof Palme was the Prime Minister of Sweden until he was assassinated in 1986, to date his killer has not been found. The only reason I was watching the series is that Stina Rautelin has a part in the show, I have enjoyed her work in the series Beck .

Cancer Ward.

No surprise to me. To many people, being told you have cancer comes as a terrible shock, as we fear the "C" word like no other; but to me, it came as no shock to find I had it this week. Why? I have a long list of inherited illnesses from my mother, and I surmised this had a high chance of happening as my late Uncle John, who I mentioned in my story - Lifeboat Heroes - died from cancer at my age (63). We do have a vast difference in lifestyles though, my uncle was a heavy smoker, and I gave up smoking over 20 years ago. The fast-track. It is now more than three months since the cancer was discovered, and I was "fast-tracked" to the Cancer clinic, and still, I await the biopsy. All I can say is I am glad my cancer only grows 0.75 cm a year, or by now, a biopsy would not be needed. I have the date for the biopsy , it will be performed on September 3rd; after that, I will need to stay in the hospital for observation for several hours.  At this rate, I s...

My life in his hands.

Cairo University The specialists at Southmeand Hospital , Bristol are non-the-wiser as to what causes the growth on my kidney, after studying the biopsy results for four years. After a short phone call, we decided that as nothing appears to be happening the scans can be extended to 18 months from annual. I have no problem with this as I have had this pain for more time than I can recall, and as it is only the size of a walnut, and not doing anything I say "Let it be." My concern is if I need an operation, how reliable is the surgeon? He was trained at Cairo University  the university has dropped in the last two years from 550th in the ranking, to 600th. Whether this is because 50 more schools have been upgraded to University status I cannot say, the one thing which has not changed is outside countries in the Balkans, Cairo Uni is the lowest-ranked University.

Save the NHS

I used to have faith in the NHS. I have seen several specialists over the last decade, but none have been English. Things are  going from bad to worse  in my opinion, as the latest is an Egyptian from Cairo University . Cairo Uni ranks 450th out of the top 500 in the world. I have been to about 20 appointments to see a specialist at Southmead hospital in the last three years, and the average waiting time is 45 minutes past the time I was told to be there.  Brexit will be the saviour of the NHS in as it will mean we can control who comes into the country. I am in favour of visitors having to pay to use our health services, after all, if you travel anywhere else you have to pay for medical care.
