What broke the Labour Party in the UK?

If you listen to Labour Party supporters, who are usually misinformed, they'll say Margaret Thatcher ruined the UK. To the informed populace, the truth is the opposite, Dame Margaret saved the UK. 

Before the Conservative Party won the 1983 General Election. the UK was held to ransom by the Unions. If they asked for a pay rise, they got it, which pushed inflation up - which they would complain about - we never knew what was happening, it was worse than being in World War 2, at least then the country was together.

During this period, we had the Miners Strike; men who braved the picket lines were called "scabs," yet it was those men who kept the mines safe to use for another 15 years. If they hadn't kept the mines ventilated, there would have been an extremely high-risk of an explosion caused by firedamp. Firedamp is an explososive mixture of Methane, and other gasses which occur in mines, unless the area is ventilated.

I researched the issues concerning mining during the writing of the book above.

Some years later, you'd see men stting on the pavement with a sign saying "Ex'miner with wife, and children to feed." I have no sympathy for them, I am not unsympathetic, you have to realise during the 70, these men were on triple pay, doing double shifts, and going holiday to Spain while the UK was held to ransom.

While I despise their leader, Arthur Scargill, on the other hand you have to admire his audacity. He was made a life peer, meanng he had an income for life, despite the kowledge that his actions in getting his men to work so hard, put them out of jobs quicker than usual. Coal is a natural substance which takes a long time to form. Thanks to the miners of the 70s, the only coal in the UK now is sea coal, this occurs when a seam has been worked out, and the tide has exposed the remains of the coal onshore. This coal is extremely poor quality.
