The day I got accused of being a Nazi

Many years ago, one reader accused me of being a Nazi, which is ironic as several people told me I look like a rabbi and tend to think like a Jew.
The issue arose through the reader not liking the style of the story; the story is based in the mid-1940s USA, a time before PC, and criminals had more civil rights than their victims.
The reader didn't approve of one of the police officers using violence to beat a confession from a criminal; but, that is how they worked in the 1940s, and in parts of India still do.
The story is hard to define, is it a ghost story, is it criminal fiction, a mystery, or is it a mix of all three?
