Thanksgiving

 Ardennes 1944

While the weekend of the 24th of November will be celebrated in the USA as Thanksgiving, I give my thanks at Christmas to the 19,000 US soldiers who died during the winter of 1944 in the Ardennes Offensive AJA The Battle of the Bulge without whose help Europe would have fallen to the Nazi jackboots as the French Generals said the Germans would not drive tanks through the forest, even though it almost happened only 20 years before.

    1. Thank you for the compliment. This article could well trace the numerous ways the USA has saved people over the world after the French mess things up, and leave. I had a discussion on FB some while ago, with a man from Mozambique (West Africa) who was going on about American Imperialism; he soon shut up when I told him that his country was helped many times during the 70's by foreign mercenaries.

I tell people I am a social historian as well as a writer; I write usually with no personal opinion.
