A Writing Contract

 The Book Option

For many years, I pondered what would I do if I was offered a writing contract? I can dream can't I?

There were several questions that needed answering.

Given the option, would I choose a large advace or a small one? I would choose the small advance, being an unknown writer it would be easier to pay off than the large one.

Could I write a novel? Years ago, that was questionable, now I'd say yes.

What genre? I am easy there, I have no comfort zone, and I am content to write in several genres, though I do have a couple I will not write about.

If I was offered the opportunity now, I would give it serious thought before answering. I doubt my ability these days, but just as much the passing years have made me doubt the sincerity of the world of writing.

I was offered a contract about five years ago, asI suspects it turned out to be a scam. I had my concerns from the moment I was asked; nobody is going to pay an unknown writer £200 for a 2,000 word short story; the going rate at the time was closer to £30.
