A review of Toby's room by Pat Barker
This was the first Pat Barker book I have read and it won't be my last as I had to buy "Life Class," to get the introductions to the characters. I started off thinking this was the first in the Regeneration series and was slightly disappointed that it wasn't. After about ten pages, I thought I had mistaken the blurb and bought a romance; in the end it was a truly remarkable story depicting the horrors of WW1 and the struggle for the beginnings of what we now call plastic surgery.
